French Restaurants in Charleston

June 28, 2015

Need a little je ne said quoi to hold you over until your next trip to France? Check out these top rated French restaurants in the Holy City!

Bin 152

Wine, cheese and charcuterie bar located on Lower King Street. Decorated in French Brocant style furniture and art, Bin 152 offers a romantic spot for happy hour or appetizer before dinner. Their menu features a large selection of cheeses from various regions of France and their extensive wine lists hosts France and Italian favorites.

Chez Nous

Located in the up and coming Elliotborough neighborhood, Chez Nous is owned by the same French-American couple as Bin 152. The hip and intimate dining scene offers a different menu daily consisting of 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 desserts to choose from. For the menu, visit their Facebook Page.

Fast and French

Community style seating creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere at this Charleston staple. Located in the business district on Broad Street, Fast and French is perfect for a quick lunch with classic French sandwiches like Croque Monsieur and Salmon and goat cheese. Thursday nights are always packed for their traditional “Fondue Night” where you select your cheeses and broths and dip until your hearts content!

39 Rue de Jean

A Charleston favorite for many years, 39 Rue de Jean, (or “Rue” as it is lovingly referred to by locals) provides a full service French menu ranging from mussels in 6 different preparations to beef tartare and escargots. They also have a great raw bar and even offer sushi! Rue decided to offer sushi since it is very a la mode in Paris and Charlestonians love it.

Brasserie Gigi

Relatively new to the Charleston dining scene is Brasserie Gigi, an upscale French restaurant located on Market Street, was recently rated one of America’s Hottest French Restaurants in 2014 by Zagat. Brasserie Gigi’s cozy leather booths, long bar and dim lighting make you feel like you’ve slipped into a bustling restaurant in the City of Lights. They offer French dishes with a southern twist such as a crumb fried shrimp plate and fried oyster salad.
