While it’s hard to take the time to focus on lesser known areas, Gordes is a sure sight when visiting the south of France. With a population of about 2,000, the village is placed upon a series of mountains and hills. It boasts some of the most beautiful architecture with most of the buildings made of a lovely white stone. When you reach the village-top you can’t miss one of Gorde’s staple structures, their beautiful fortified castle dating back to 1525.
Nicknamed “La Villa Rose” due to the constant use of pink brick in the surrounding buildings, this city is always bustling. With a population of approximately 450,000, a must see in the city is the Basilique Saint-Sernin. The church, constructed in the 11thand 13th centuries is also made up of the typical pink terra-cotta brick.
