Good food is a fundamental part of life in Italy. From handmade pasta to fine wines, your palate will be dazzled by the sheer variety of things to eat and drink. Again, as you travel to different parts of the country, you'll be exposed to different regional cuisines. The northern regions are well-known for their artisan cheeses, pesto, risotto and polenta. Tuscany is a major producer of olive oil and wine. Much of Southern Italy features hearty dishes with meat. In contrast, much of Sicily's cuisine takes advantage of the fresh bounty harvested from the sea. No matter where you end up, you're guaranteed to run into something delicious.
